Brow Lift Cosmetic Surgery

Brow Lift Cosmetic Surgery

Also known as a forehead lift, brow lift surgery is a cosmetic procedure this is designed to refresh and rejuvenate the appearance of the face above the eyes and below the hairline. By removing excess fat and skin, as well as tightening the muscles of your face, cosmetic and plastic surgeons are able to smooth wrinkles, eliminate deep furrows, and restore a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing appearance to the upper third of your face.

Brow lift surgery may be combined with a face lift, eyelid lift, as well as dermal fillers, in order to provide a more complete rejuvenation of the face and neck. The extent and number of procedures completed will be dependent on the particulars of your case, as well as your individual goals and expectations.

While brow lifts can only be performed surgically, non-surgical rejuvenation treatments may help delay the time when a brow lift becomes appropriate. Additionally, they may complement and improve the results of brow lift surgery.

Brow Lift Surgery Methods

There are variations to the methods used for brow lift surgery. The exact technique used by the surgeon will vary based on a patient’s existing facial tissue, the amount of excess fat and skin to be removed, the need for and extent of facial muscle tissue requiring correction, as well as the desired aesthetic outcome that the patient is looking for. Your cosmetic or plastic surgeon will recommend the type of brow lift, as well as any secondary procedures, that will together achieve the best results within the budget and expectations that you have set.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

A less invasive method than more traditional techniques such as the classic brow lift and limited brow lift, the endoscopic brow lift uses a special tool with a small camera on the end (endoscope) and other specialized instruments placed through small incisions made just behind the hairline. This method allows for the removal of excess fat and tissue, and the correction of facial muscle issues contributing to visible creases and folds in the skin of the forehead. This method is well suited for women with high foreheads, as it can be completed with without altering the height of the front hairline

Limited Incision Brow Lift

Typically performed together with eyelid lift surgery, a limited incision brow lift uses slightly longer incisions than an endoscopic brow lift which are made just above each temple within the hairline. Through these incisions, the surgeon is able to correct any facial muscle issues of the outer brow area; then through the incisions made during the upper eyelid procedure, the surgeon is able to address the area between the eyebrows and smooth deep furrows and frown lines. This method is also well suited to women with high foreheads, as it can be completed with without altering the height of the front hairline

Classic Brow Lift

More invasive than either the endoscopic method or the limited incision method, the classic brow lift uses a “coronal incision” which extends from ear to ear across the top of the head behind the hairline. The forehead skin is lifted, excess fat and tissue is removed and the correction of any underlying facial muscle issues are addressed. While less frequently employed than it used to be, a classic brow lift may still be preferable in situations where a significant amount of correction for excess skin on the forehead is required.

Brow Lift Surgery

Brow lift surgery is a relatively straightforward, outpatient procedure, that is performed while the patient is under general anesthesia or using a combination of local anesthesia and intravenous sedation.

There are variations to the number and placement of the incisions used for brow lift surgery. Given the particulars of your case, the extent of correction required and your desired outcome for the appearance of your brow and face, your surgeon will employ one or more of the methods for conducting a lift (described above) after having discussed it with you during your consultation. The duration for the surgery will vary based on the method of brow lift employed as well as whether any additional procedures are being conducted at the same time.

The surgeon will then remove fatty deposits, excess skin, and correct any issues with the underlying muscle structures. Next, your cosmetic or plastic surgeon will close the incision (if necessary) with a number of fine sutures, staples, and surgical tape, in order to minimize the visible appearance of your scars.

Brow Lift Recovery

Today’s techniques allow for a relatively comfortable and brief recuperation after brow lift surgery. Most patients take 7-10 days off from work to rest and heal at home, although they are still able to move about the house and participate in light activities. It is very important to carefully follow your plastic or cosmetic surgeons’ directions for self-care after surgery.

Be sure to keep your head elevated, limit physical exertion, and apply cold compresses to sooth pain and reduce swelling.

If pain and swelling persists, contact your surgeon to find out if your pain, redness and swelling is normal, or a sign of a problem requiring additional attention.

Considerations

Brow lift surgery will permanently restore a natural, youthful, appearance to your forehead and face through the removal of excess skin, fat, and the correction of lax facial muscles. As a popular elective procedure, brow lift surgery is quite safe. However, no surgery is completely free of risk.

In general, potential risks of brow lift surgery include reaction to the anesthesia, bruising, swelling, loss of sensation, scarring, damage to local tissue and structures, infection, excessive bleeding, dry eyes, loss of hair around the incisions, elevated hairline, irregular contours or asymmetries, and the need for revision surgery.

Be sure to speak with your cosmetic or plastic surgeon about the benefits and limitations associated with brow lift surgery, and ensure that you fully understand the procedures and their related complications prior to proceeding with your surgery.
